Guidance: HTM 06-01 (2017)

The new HTM 06-01 offers a new approach to electrical supplies in healthcare. The structure is now based on the grid incomer through to final circuits in the final chapter.

More so, the document clearly differentiates between business risks and patient risks and recommends an electrical safety group which should include clinical staff.

It is a very comprehensive document and radiology departments need to be aware of the issues specific to medical radiological equipment.

Recent experience has unturned that I have been able to help companies modify their pre-installation requirements so that the customer appreciates their responsibilities in the planning stage for the new wiring requirements.

Following recent training courses, I have found that hospitals are fitting Medical IT circuits to ensure the Location is capable of supporting devices that may require Medical IT in the future. I have developed a way of ensuring a Medical Location can be future proofed so it can become a Group A without spending tens of thousands of pounds on unnecessary Medical IT control panels.

The methodology I have developed certainly justifies the cost of the training course many times over. This will save the NHS many thousands of pounds if followed.
